As you might know, PEP’s Make Summer Count won the 2017 Dick and Tunky Riley WhatWorksSC Award for Excellence, presented by The Riley Institute at Furman and SC Future Minds. This is a tremendous honor and a testament to the impact of PEP’s focus on the development and utilization of public-private partnerships to tackle systemic challenges to student achievement, challenges that include summer reading loss.

More specifically, it is a testament to the leadership of our current and past Board of Directors, Grier Mullins, Susan Shi, Ben Saul, other former PEP staff members, our current PEP team, Greenville County Schools, Scholastic and the hundreds of individuals, corporations and foundations who invested their time, talent, and treasure in interventions that have a measurable impact on eliminating the summer reading slide.
This award also further fuels us to seek and introduce strategies that ultimately improve outcomes for kids and strengthens Greenville’s public schools!
