TEACHER FELLOWS

Educators are leaders in their classrooms, their schools, and their communities.
They are powerful advocates for students and we aim to amplify their voices through leadership opportunities like our Teacher Fellows program.

Teacher Fellows 2024-2025
Our Teacher Fellows in Columbia, Spring 2025
Teacher Fellows is a paid, half-year policy and advocacy fellowship for Greenville County Schools educators. Participants will meet twice monthly to learn from experts, discuss education policy in South Carolina, and develop their advocacy skills. This is an intensive fellowship and requires out-of-session work, including but not limited to, readings, research, and journal entries.

Some of the key highlights of the fellowship include:

  • Attending a local school board meeting to observe and understand educational policy at the district level.

  • Meeting with state representatives and senators to discuss current educational issues and initiatives.

  • Engaging with former Teacher Fellows during the opening ceremony, fostering mentorship and collaboration.

  • Participating in sessions with various guest speakers who are leaders in education and policy.

  • Concluding the fellowship with a pinning ceremony in Columbia.

The Columbia visit will be a capstone experience, featuring:

  • Meetings with legislators and lobbyists to gain insight into the legislative process.

  • Observing a legislative session in progress at the State House.

The application deadline for the 2026-27 program has now passed. For more information about Teacher Fellows, please contact Dr. Yolanda Crittendon-Jones, PEP’s Community Engagement and Leadership Director, by phone at (864) 365-0079 or via email at yolanda@pepgc.org

FAQs

TEACHER FELLOWS FAQS

Who should apply?

Greenville County Schools teachers, librarians, counselors, reaching coaches, instructional coaches, and other non-administrative educators working in schools are encouraged to apply. Those working in Title I and OnTrack Greenville schools will receive preference. Applicants must be in good standing with the District. Our goal is a diverse cohort of professionals that represent different levels of experience, both within the school system and as advocates. We are looking for creative, trailblazing individuals!

How long is the fellowship?

The fellowship typically begins in October and end in March. Meetings happen once or twice per month, typically on Monday evenings from 5PM-6:30PM at the PEP offices. A final calendar is shared with applicants who are invited to participate to ensure that they can attend most sessions before accepting.

How much does the fellowship cost?

The fellowship is free. Participants will earn a stipend of $1,000 for their participation. All materials will be provided as well.

How large is the cohort?

The cohort will include 10 participants.

What if I can't participate in every section?

Participants will be expected to participate in every session. However, we understand that life throws us curve balls and things come up. As such, participants may miss two sessions and still earn their certificate of completion. We recommend applying to participate in a later cohort if the time commitment doesn’t feel doable at this time.

What is the meeting schedule?

One to two meetings per month on Mondays from 5PM – 6:30PM at the PEP offices at McAlister Square. Individuals accepted into the cohort will receive a schedule of meeting dates and additional information.

Will participant receive professional development credit?

PEP will award a certificate of completion that participants may then submit to the school district as “out of district” professional development. It is up to the school district whether they will accept the certificate of completion.

Is there a deadline to apply?

The application deadline is typically Sept. 1. We are no longer accepting applications for the 2026-27 school year. Please consider applying next year!
